Cheap archer unit that can serve as a distraction (trebuchet bait too, maneuver them to get even more trebs!) or a cheap damage dealer, when need be, they can surprisingly penetrate high-tiered units pierce defenses pretty well with a right doctrine set-up. (Remember, unless you're a really really really old vet you don't need to put those high tier docs on them, save them for better higher-tiered units, the tier 1 and 2's will work just fine for greys.)
